Sewing treats & running funnies

I’ve had some fantastic things in the post recently & wanted to share with you as they are both exciting and one caused me nearly to wet myself it was so funny.

First of all, I was lucky enough during Sew Grateful week to be the lucky winner of not one, but two patterns, that I think are actually pretty seasonally appropriate.  They are both dress patterns unlike anything I have already (it is true – please don’t disbelieve me despite all appearances, from what I understand my pattern stash is on the mediochre size, isn’t it Debi? ;-) )

This one, a gorgeous Vogue with a circle skirt from Tina at Down a Retro Rabbit Hole – thank you so much …want to make it!!

And the Hectic Eclectic sent me this dreamy number, with detachable collar.

I MUST make this one soon too.  Mrs C asked me in the giveaway what I’d make it out of, & I think I replied that I kind of liked the plaid or a polka dot …..I think it is because of these patterns and all the separates I’ve been making I’m having dress lust, and not just any dresses, but vintage dresses.  I have a feeling that my Spring sewing is likely to include at least a couple…..

Talk about adorable dresses that require some fabric that does not currently exist in my stash (I sense an imminent shop…).  Please leave me some ideas of what fabric you think I should use to make these dresses ….. what do you think?  Help me, I don’t want to be tempted by elephants again…

Then what caused me to nearly pee my pants?

THIS arrived in the post from Karen.  Yes, next Sunday is the Bath Half marathon, & it couldn’t have been more perfectly timed- at times of adversity going the 13.2 miles I will have two resources available to perk me up: our course trainer whose “whoop whoops” are the loudest and joyful I’ve ever heard; and the second will be the messages on this card – “Scruffy’s blogger friends hold an intervention when she threatens to run in a pig in a tutu costume”, or how about “Pink elephants make runners look pretty”!!    As a result I will find some way to take a bit of pink elephant around the race….:-)  Gotta look my best!!  This card will be framed & forever cause me to giggle in a way known by sewsters with a penchant for Colette Patterns & silly sewing.  Karen, you are a genius.

And finally a thank you to Clare from Magpie Makes who nominated me for  a Liebster Award.  I am not very good at these, always struggling to know who to nominate.

I can be let off the hook as I’ve done the hard bit back here as Carly nominated me.  Thank you very much for your kindness Clare.

Oh my goodness, that card is INSPIRED! :D
    And great patterns!
    Onwards with elephants!!

  2. Hee, hee – you’re welcome! Good luck. Intrigued to know what pink elephant element will accompany you.

I’m so dim, that at first I thought the mainstream media finally recognized the importance of both your amazing talent and sewing. Karen is quite the friend!
And if you are finished with elephants, how about your namesake? These are pretty adorable http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/276014.

I’m so dim, I got excited when I thought that the mainstream media had finally discovered the vital importance of both you and sewing. Then I read on. . . .Karen is really quite clever.

And if you are finished with elephants, how about your namesake? This would make the best dress: http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/276014

    • I LOVE that idea Sigrid! Somehow I’m going to have to weave a bit of Badger magic into my sewing. Thank you for the inspiration – the fabric is really cute too. I can imagine a dress (like your chicken dress) that from afar looks like some “print” with up close inspection revealing the animal element.

    pink elephants ahoy!! lol

love the new patterns; just came back from the fabric store to get lining for my Truffle so I’m all inspired now by the pretty new cottons for spring; lovely voile, batiste, sheers, gingham, poplin…. I was particularly tempted by the dotted swiss dot – but decided to hold off til they have their sale this weekend – so I think you should do a nice springy Easter dress in a light fun cotton :)

Good luck with the race! I did ask my son if he was intending to have a go,but apparently not this year!! Hope the course does not include too many of those hills like that one up to the University…my son does cycle up that one every day (without stopping apparently)..to me the thought of either running or cycling up something like that just makes me feel knackered thinking about it.

    • Thanks Catherine – cycling UP to the Uni every day – sheer madness – or the joys of being young & fit. Thankfully the Bath Half is reasonably flat with only the slightest incline – would you ever catch me knowingly choosing a run with massive hills – no fear! They are my nemesis

Best card ever! So hilarious! Best of luck to you in the race!!!

  8. Jane says:

I LOVE that card! It’s so clever and witty. x

  9. LinB says:

HAHAHAHA! Best. card. ever. (My own running-maniac friend just posts photos of her yucky feet, post-run. This is far classier.) Could you do a pink elephant fabric strap to hold your race number? Or, pin a tiny scrap onto the number with a safety pin? Fanny pack for holding energy bars … or a water-bottle sleeve? Running shorts may be out of the question, but you could do a sort of bow with two buttonholes to thread your shoelaces through. I just throw these ideas out into the sewing universe, so that they are no longer clogging up my brain.

Oh!! I can’t wait to see what you do with the Vogue pattern. Pretty sure it went all the way to States back in december with some mustrad fabric as part of a giveway I ran (which Tina won). Oh the journey history of that pattern :) (I could have saved some postage there;)

  11. Christine says:

That card is hilarious! Good luck for the half-marathon. Will you be whipping up some retro running gear? x

  12. Joy says:

I see some pink elephant nylon/lycra in your future!

  16. MrsC says:

Gorgeous card, clever Karen indeed! Now how about making up that Simplicity pattern in the navy elephants?? Huh? Huh? ;-)

  17. Ginger says:
