Lisette Portfolio: another satisfied customer

Dear one and all,

Thank you all you sewing bloggers and Flickr posters out there for leading me down the path oft trodden towards the Lisette Portfolio tunic.

I know that I am quite a way behind many of the pioneers, such as Karen who’s adoration of said pattern is no secret.  RoobeedooMinnado and Tamsin are also superfans.  And now me.

I also have Lysy to thank for spurring me on to get the Portfolio tunic out of my head & cut & sewn out of fabric.  I made it in a day.  I made it from 1.5m of sort of blackwatch tartan bought from the Rag Market for something like £4/m.  There is some kind of synthetic / wool / acryllic element – but it machine washes & is actually very comfy to wear.

Out of this 1.5m I managed to cut a size 12 with the long sleeves & matched some of the checks (not quite all !).  I found a remnant of strange blue flannel to use for the contrast yoke & cuffs which sort of works OK too & lines the pockets to make them snuggly (double win as I wouldn’t have had enough of the main fabric left for pocket linings).

Not much else to say – I really like the way the yoke & pockets are constructed.  Although I followed the pattern by adding an opening at the back I don’t actually need it.

As with my other “loose & unbody-fitting” tunic, (if you follow the link, forgive me, the images have dropped out & I need to replace them ….)

it gave Gary strange associations- he thought it looked like a tabard/ medieval archer-wear.  Why? Was it because the first time I wore it with grey leggings?  This time I’m trialling it with my jeans & I think it works too.

Tabard though?!  When I searched Google …

Now that’s what I call a tabard!

This looks lovely and snug and not at all like a tabard! The style really suits you…I wish I could get away with wearing such breezy looking clothes ;o)

    • Thank you Marie – I wasn’t sure if it would suit me to be honest – I think clothes with waists are best, but sometimes I like to “flob” out & relax & having seen so many other versions I thought it was worth a risk. Maybe that’s why Gary thinks it looks like a tabard, because it’s a shape that I don’t usually wear …

I love it in the tartan. I’d have never of thought of it. You look amazing in it.

Great portfolio! Looks lovely and cuddly, perfect for the chilly weather we’ve had lately. Love it!

    This is really cute. xx

Hooray! I do love the colours of blackwatch. Hooray for Lisette! I actually popped over here to see how your Portfolio trousers turned out as they are my next project, so if you’ll excuse me I am off to rummage in your archives! ;)

  6. You really nailed the pattern matching there. Love the style lines on it too!

Looks fab, Winnie. I like the use of tartan. I too love the pockets on Portfolio. I have been eyeing other Lisette patterns but am broke so not buying any YET. I did wear my portfolio dresses til 7 months pregnant! I had to stop when I noticed the seams straining, tee hee.

    • Debbie, that is a bargain – wearing it for maternity – yes when I was looking at yours I realised it was the dress, not the tunic that you’d made. Top tip on Lisette patterns – they are being offered as the free pattern in the sew mag this & previous months. Not sure which it is this month, or what’s been already.

I have this pattern in my spring collection. It’s always good to see how everyone else gets along, you have done a great job!

  9. lizajane says:

Lovely! I’m a fan of that pattern, too. I’ve made up the top version. I didn’t need the back opening either. I think I’m going to make up the dress version when it starts getting a bit warmer here, which should be soon :)

    • Lizajane, I’m looking forward to making the top too- I have some horizontal stripes that might be used for it…. when the weather’s warmer! I shall look out for your dress – it’s a pretty style with great potential with the contrast yoke & cuffs.

  10. This looks wonderful! I love the tartan.

Looks great, as well as nice and comfy. This one has been on my “to do” forever. I even have the fabric washed and ready to go … one of these days.
